Shoo fly, don't bother me!

So, this week we have had some lovely visitors in our kitchen. Fruit Flies. There is just some produce you don't want to put in the fridge and normally I can leave out the fruits or veggies I want... but not this year. This is only the second time in my life we have had fruit flies, normally we go on about our lives without these annoying bastards.

This may not seem like a big deal but fruit flies are about the most annoying bugs ever. They are as annoying as June Bugs are dumb and as annoying as Butterflies are beautiful.

So, if any of you friends have a fruit fly issue this summer, I remembered an old trick (which is ironic because the day after I did this trick my sister-in-law sent me an email with "household tips" and this is one of them). So... all you need is a small bowl, fill it about an inch high with cider vinegar and a few drops of liquid dish soap. It is like a moth to flame for these suckers. (Some people suggest putting saran wrap over the bowl and poking it with tooth picks so it is harder for them to escape, but I find doing it without the cover is just as successful- see below!)

I WILL WHEN THIS BATTLE!

Go MAVS!!

Oh my goodness. That was the most nail biting game of basketball (or end of a 4th quarter) I have seen in a LONG time. I can still not believe, after how we were playing most of the game, that we pulled off a win in OT! I still can't believe we even made it to OT. AMAZING! It was so exciting! I am hoping to bring it home on Wednesday and head to the Championship!! GO MAVS!!!!

Going with the old school logo! GO MAVS!

Veronica's 30th Birthday Bash!

On Saturday night we celebrated Veronica's 30th Birthday! It was at a great Club in Deep Ellem, 3025, that was rented out so the whole club was ours!  The attire was Black and White Cocktail- which was super fun and almost everyone actually wore clothes according to the invite. It was SUCH a fun party! We drank, watched the Mavs beat the Thunder, socialized and danced all night!

MC and me! Had to get a few good pictures before we got too deep into the night!

:)

Love him.

Me and the birthday girl!

Gail with all her kiddos!!! Kevin, Byron, Nick and Veronica!

It was such a fun night! I am so glad that we all got to celebrate Veronica. She is such a dear friend.  She is unbelievably selfless and very generous in every way. She is also pretty fun! She does have flaws though, she is the worst joke teller of all time. Seriously, ask her to tell you a joke sometime, it is hilarious- not the joke, her trying to tell it.

But really, Happy 30th Birthday to an amazing person! We love you, Vern!

Busy or Bust!

Last Sunday, as I stated in my blog earlier this week, I was hoping for a relaxing, low-key week. Well, that didn't happen AT ALL!

On  Monday Sloan and I took Veronica out to eat for her 30th Birthday! We went and sat on the Patio at Chuy's and it was delish and fun! Then we ran up to the Club where Veronica's 30th Birthday Bash is going to be to make sure everything was set up! We ran a few more errands then came back to the house. Our friend Casey came over for a beer, then Isaac and Isaac's cousin, Martin stopped by for a little. Everyone was gone around 8:00 and we watched a little TV then crashed!

Tuesday Sloan and I went and hand lunch with some old co-workers at Jorge's in One Arts Plaza. I love that restaurant- they have a great patio, where of course we sat! Then Tuesday night we had Book Club, always a pleasure to see those ladies. When I got home from Book Club Michael and our friend Spencer had pulled the Flat Screen outside and were watching the game on the patio! GO MAVS!

Wednesday, I dropped Sloanie off at my Mom's (She watches her every Wednesday for me, thank goodness especially this week because Sloan was up from 2:30-6:00 on Tuesday night- WHAT!) and ran errands all morning and then had a meeting in the afternoon. We had a drink at my parents then came home played and had dinner. Then two of my cousins came by with one of their friends and they stayed and hung out for a bit!

Hello! I want to go for a ride!

How many pictures do I have just like this!

Sweet Sloanie!

Then on Thursday we went to Happy Hour/Dinner with the Kifers at Matt's in Lakewood. Adalynn and Sloan had so much fun playing together and we of course had a great time with Natalie and Kullen.

Finally on Friday we laid low. I ran a few errands ALONE on Friday night after MC got home from work then we caught up on some DVR and went to bed early!!! Michael had to work Taste of Addison for Tiff's on Saturday so it was me and Sloan again on Saturday! Lucky for us our cousins Carter and Charlotte came over to play and for lunch. Was great fun per usual! Saturday night was Veronica's 30th but that will be a separate post coming soon.

So in all seriousness, I hope that this week is a little more low-key. Don't get me wrong I love being busy and social but a little more low-key  of a week would be nice...however with the MAVS in the playoffs I am not sure how likely that is! GO MAVS!!!!!

My Must Have This Minute!

HATS!

I can not get enough hats! I have always loved hats but I have been on a hat buying kick lately! I have bought FOUR new hats this season already! I bought two fedoras, a cadet hat and a crocheted hat. They are a great accessory and are perfect for a bad or lazy hair day! I am wearing one as I type!

SEE!

Do yourself a favor and buy a hat or two! :)

Weekend Update

What do you know another busy, busy, busy weekend! Friday night we laid low because Saturday was going to be a crazy day! But Veronica and Jace, one of Michael's best friends and co-workers who was in town for work, came over we had a few beers and were in bed by 10:30. Michael was in bed earlier since he had such an early morning!

So Saturday was the opening of Tiff's Treats newest location at Hillcrest and Northwest Hwy!! Michael had to be up there at 5:00 AM to start getting ready for the day! They were selling a dozen cookies for just $3 and all proceeds went to the Make-a-Wish Foundation! Matthew was their wish kid, he has MS and his wish was to go on an Alaskan cruise! I volunteered to work the prize tent for a better portion of the day! It was a crazy, busy day but super fun and most importantly very successful! I have a feeling that this new location is going to be an awesome location! Go cookies! (I didn't take any pictures of the opening! :( )

Then Saturday night we had an old friend's wedding, Zibby! It was a very nice wedding, she looked beautiful and the reception was super fun. I ended up just going with my Mom because Michael still wasn't home from the Grand Opening when I had to leave at 7:00! (Long day for him!) Mom and I left early and I came home to Michael and my cousin Luke and his friend Zach, we just hung out in the backyard for bit- it was a fun night indeed!

A little Old School  BHS Calss of '99. Emily, Heather, Me and Kristen!

Big Mel and Mar!

Then on Sunday, Michael, Sloan and I headed out to Cedar Creek to my best friend, veronica's Dad's Lake House to celebrate her 30th Birthday with her family. It was a beautiful, little cool, day out at the Lake!

VERN!

Sloanie riding the Clydesdale! Where are clydesdales from?? :)

She was loving it!

Make yourself comfortable, Sloan!

Mommy and Sloan!

Love her.

Climbing the dangerous stairs with Daddy, hence why Mommy was below cause she was sure she was going to fall through the slats. :)

Looking at the water and ducks!

V, Casey, Sloan and Daddy on the deck.

Kaz, Vern's Dad, has a great piece of property on the lake. His house is to the left and he has a HUGE garage to the right that even has an extra bedroom and bath!

Casey is a serious wiffle ball pitcher!

Veronica got silly stringed!!

It was a wonderful weekend full of friends and fun. We are so lucky to be surrounded by such great people! Sunday evening we were beat though! Caught up on some DVR and we were in bed before 10:00. Hoping for a relaxing week so we can be rested for Veronica's BIG 30th Black & White Bash this weekend!

Okay, off to a birthday lunch with Miss Vern.  Enjoy the BEAUTIFUL weather!
